Our approach to each assignment is determined by the specific research or consulting challenge. Underlying every project is a systematic analytical process that provides a structure to our methodology and is designed to provide solutions for our clients.

We have developed two unique analytical frameworks which we apply to our consulting projects.  The 4Cs analytical framework helps us understand the market, its trajectory, and the implications for the client, while R-OM is an evaluative planning framework that helps organizations to prioritize issues.

Results-Oriented Management (R-OM)

Results-Oriented Management (R-OM) is an evaluative planning framework that helps private and not-for-profit organizations to prioritize issues, identify areas where they have most leverage, and measure progress.

At the heart of R-OM is the continual need to ask questions about your strategy.  Why are we doing what we are doing?  What are the underlying assumptions?  Is it leading us toward our goal?  How do we know we are making progress?  Where are we likely to get most leverage?

R-OM provides a rational framework for developing an annual or multiannual plan based upon a hierarchy of objectives – the overall goal in terms of market sales, the constraints that need to be overcome to attain the goal, and the activities that will overcome the constraints.  It also provides a framework for performance measurement.

The overall aim is to develop learning and feedback about your strategy and program, with a view to continuous improvement.

R-OM in action

We have worked with the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to implement R-OM as the basis for market development strategy planning and evaluation processes for the US agricultural export community.  As part of this process, we have provided training to FAS cooperator groups and staff.

Subsequent to R-OM’s implementation, we have completed more than 50 program evaluations for over two dozen agricultural export organizations, covering a variety of markets across the globe.
